Goals for fourth grade students include an emphasis on library procedures, searching for library books with DESTINY, knowing the parts of a book, experiencing various genres of literature, learning the Dewey Decimal System, and using research materials. Students will use World Book Online, an online encyclopedia. Students will complete a research project during library classes.
Students are encouraged to read for pleasure. Students may select 2 library books, with a due date of 2-6 day cycles, approximately 16 days. They may renew books 1 additional time. (Example of due date - Student checks out book on 4th, book would be due on the 20th, unless there was a day off.)
Fourth grade students have the opportunity to become library helpers. Library helpers will assist with shelving library books and completing small jobs around the library. Three helpers are assisting with kindergarten classes. These students help pass out papers, distribute crayons, and help dismiss students to look for library books. Students are selected by their teachers for this opportunity.
